Rebecca is currently on maternity leave, but will rejoin Full Circle soon!
I’m so glad you’ve clicked on over to find out more about me! My name is Rebecca Rouse Blalock and I am kind of the resident jack-of-all-trades at Full Circle. Chances are I am one of the first you’ll hear from if you send us an email or reach out to Full Circle on our facebook page. You might also see me sitting out on the front porch of Full Circle tapping away on my laptop, doing yoga or integrative coaching in the “classroom,” painting a wall, or dropping off one more piece of furniture to make our space great! And if you’re lucky, you might meet one of my amazing daughters, who often hang out at our Full Circle home away from home.
My journey to Full Circle has been, like most journeys, circuitous. Despite living with life long anxiety, and then PTSD and depression as an adolescent and young adult, I was doubtful about both the efficacy and need for therapy, or the field of psychology as a whole. In 2005, I reluctantly followed my ex-husband’s lead and moved our family from our home in South Georgia to an 80 acre “healing farm” in the foothills of WNC for adults suffering with mental and emotional health challenges. It took approximately 6 months of volunteering, living and celebrating growth alongside people in recovery before I fully understood and accepted the power of not only therapy, but the undeniable power community has on the growth and healing of people who suffer with mental and emotional illness. I was sold. Having lived at the intentional community, Koinonia, prior to moving to North Carolina, I had already experienced the power of community; learning first hand that the "it takes a village" sentiment holds many truths. However, the intentionality of living in a community focused on wellness was at times powerful beyond words. Joining the field of mental health was nothing I had ever considered, but after sharing my life with so many incredible people seeking their own individual paths to wellness and healing, I finally decided to jump in both feet first and went from part-time, residential volunteer to full-time, residential staff. That being said, I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Full Circle founding team well before Full Circle moved to Hendersonville!
For close to a decade, my family and I lived and worked at the "healing farm" just down the mountain from Hendersonville. Amassing a grad school’s worth of knowledge working on the front lines as Senior Lodge Advisor and Senior Community Life Leader, as well as serving twice as Interim Residential Director, I learned as much about myself as I did the people I worked with; people who were living and struggling with severe and persistent mental health conditions. But after years of sharing my life with a community of some of the most dynamic and amazing staff and residents, I decided to take the leap and try something new. Teaming up with Full Circle has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my adult life. There is little that can compare with working people you admire and watching something you helped create take shape and grow into a beautiful reflection of the people you serve.
As I mentioned, in addition to keeping Full Circle flowing by managing our online presence, I also enjoy engaging and working directly with our community. I offer individual, recovery focused Integrative Coaching, as well as yoga for anxiety, also on a one on one basis. While working with folks in residential treatment, I learned the empowering (and power-full) benefits of peer support and coaching. Working along the lines of integrative, recovery focused, peer support coaching, I help clients find sustainable, growth provoking ways to lead their best lives. Often working alongside their therapist, I help support the more nitty-gritty, day to day challenges some people face. Whether due to depression, trauma, ASD or simply because day to day life can be incredibly challenging, I seek to help find ways to make life more meaningful and purposeful. When appropriate, I also love to combine the practice of yoga with coaching, as well as offer one on one, private yoga to those who might find it difficult to attend a regular class due to anxiety or other limiting issues. After 20 years of practicing yoga to help aide in my own path to wellness and recovery from PTSD, depression and anxiety, I have seen first-hand the undeniable benefits of breathwork and asana. While being with others in community is often beneficial beyond compare, the magic of learning to be with one's self during the practice of yoga is an equally powerful conduit to growth and healing.
In addition to the varied and fulfilling work I do at Full Circle, I am also privileged to work part-time at an amazing local non-profit that focuses on supporting families and children, leading a "Children’s Circle" group, that coincides with a peer led Parent’s Circle. I also manage to find the time to help create and maintain other websites and social media accounts for various businesses, as well as homeschool my two amazing younger twin daughters, remotely support my eldest who is attending college at Warren Wilson, and somehow find time to show a little love to my partner, Matt and our sweet black lab, Sadie.
