The most important piece to a counselor/client relationship is the rapport that they build. The foundation of my therapeutic process is built upon the relationship we will cultivate during our time together. Beyond the goals we will set, my personal goal is to make our sessions a place for you to feel not only welcomes but encouraged to be your authentic self. Taking the dive to start counseling can feel intimidating and I want to be there for you through the scary, challenging and rewarding aspects we will unpack.
My therapeutic approach is influenced by techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The goals of our sessions will be to reduce negative thought patterns and unnecessary emotional dwelling through the use of mindfulness, cognitive defusion, goal setting and other interventions. By being present and consciously observing emotionally destructive thought patterns, we can learn to detach ourselves from those thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts.
My educational background is in biology and chemistry; I earned my B.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017. Currently, I am working towards a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University and plan to graduate in December 2023. My most current counseling experiences have come from providing immediate crisis intervention to suicidal individuals through the online platform, Crisis Text line.
