At the heart of a counselor-client relationship lies the crucial element of rapport-building, a principle that forms the cornerstone of my therapeutic approach. Throughout our shared journey, I prioritize nurturing the connection we forge, placing it at the forefront of our therapeutic process. Beyond the objectives we establish together, my personal commitment is to transform our sessions into a welcoming space where you not only feel embraced but empowered to authentically express yourself. Embarking on the counseling journey may seem daunting, and I aim to stand by you as we navigate the intimidating, challenging, and ultimately rewarding aspects that we'll unpack together. I work with clients of all ages and all backgrounds and am proudly LGBTQIA+ affirming.
Informed by principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, my therapeutic approach centers on minimizing negative thought patterns and unproductive emotional dwelling. Through the integration of mindfulness, cognitive defusion, goal-setting, and various interventions, our sessions aim to foster positive change. By cultivating a present and conscious awareness of emotionally destructive thought patterns, we work towards detachment and the substitution of constructive, affirming thoughts.
My academic background includes a B.S. in biology and chemistry earned from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017. I earned a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lenoir-Rhyne University in December 2023. I bring a diverse skill set to my counseling practice. Beyond my internship experience at Full-Circle Community Wellness, I also have experiences involving providing immediate crisis intervention to individuals facing suicidal thoughts through an online crisis resource center, Crisis Text Line. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I look forward to the opportunity to do the same with you.
