I am currently a practicum student in counseling at Lenoir-Rhyne University and am transitioning into counseling from an 11-year nursing career. My favorite aspect of nursing is the connection formed with my patients. My desire to strengthen this connection led me to explore the profound realm of psychotherapy.
My transition arises from a passion for fostering genuine connections. This new career journey is allowing me to learn and apply psychotherapy skills. I feel particularly drawn to emotionally-focused approaches and hope to start Level 1 training for Internal Family Systems this year, aspiring to help clients reconnect with their full spectrum of emotions.
A challenge that has allowed me the opportunity for growth, pushing me to better understand my clients on their unique paths, lies in navigating the differences in lived experiences with my clients.
Working primarily from an emotionally-focused approach, I aim to create a safe and inclusive space for clients by being authentically myself and simply being open and curious about what my clients are facing. I plan to specialize in addressing co-occurring mental health concerns and medical illnesses, particularly focusing on medical trauma and gaslighting.
My goal is to work with clients facing the intersection of mental health and medical issues. Simultaneously, I aspire to support healthcare professionals dealing with work-related stressors. Engaging in social justice efforts, I initiate conversations within the medical community, write papers and letters, and advocate for clients in ways that align with their needs.
Guided by insatiable curiosity, deep compassion for fellow humans, and a belief in holding dualities, I am committed to fostering growth, understanding, and healing in the therapeutic space.
