Creative Engagement is at the core of Conrad’s approach in his artistic endeavors as well as his counseling. Conrad feels lucky to be able to call himself an artist and has spent much of his life constructing and deconstructing interactive environments that stimulate creative engagement. This interactive engagement has developed into an obsession with listening as an antidote to the urgency and isolation of modern life. This pursuit of deeper listening has led to a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville. His experiences as both an artist and as a counselor have informed his view that authenticity is an important component of a sense of wellness. The path of the artist has had its share of ups and downs, but at its core the pursuit was always to demonstrate an alternate model to normalcy through authentic expression and creative exchange.
This knowledge and experience, with the power of creative processes, informs Conrad’s counseling style, allowing each therapeutic relationship to be a co-created, individualized exchange. Conrad works with different modalities such as guided imagery, Internal family systems, and expressive arts to access the unique values, narratives, and dynamics at play in someone’s life. He works with emergent adults and adults who are seeking support with excessive stress, grief, life transitions, interpersonal conflict, anxiety, depression, trauma, and problematic behavioral patterns. Anchored in both narrative and person-centered theory, Conrad’s style of counseling encourages maximum authenticity, wholeness, safety, empowerment, and empathy. He is honored to be of service and support individuals as they move toward increased clarity, wholeness, empowerment, and resilience.
