I received my Master’s degree in Counseling from Western Carolina University in May 2014. While attending graduate school I was employed as a Professional School Counselor and worked in that capacity for 5 years. I absolutely loved working with teachers, parents, and students to identify stressors and mitigate barriers to success. I was named the 2017-2018 middle school counselor of the year for Buncombe County Schools.
While I enjoy working with young children and adolescents, I also love working with older adults, couples, and families. In graduate school, I was educated on how to work with people of all ages and in every stage of life; Joining Full Circle has given me more opportunities to work with adults, and couples. In my career I have worked with clients preschool age to late adulthood, on a myriad of presenting issues. Some of my clients identify as LGBTQIA+ and my goal is to provide a safe place for them to explore their identity and to talk to their families if they choose. I have helped many families of children and adolescents who struggle with self-harming behaviors and suicidal ideation identify positive coping strategies and work as a family system to support the individual. I have also worked with families who have children on the autism spectrum; Using Applied Behavioral Analysis, I have helped those clients more successfully engage with their environment. Additionally, I frequently work with clients who are grieving the loss of a loved one, or who are going through a divorce.
My professional desire is to work with clients who need extra support, whether it is due to a mental health diagnosis, a physical limitation, a sudden change in their environment, or difficulty adjusting to normal life stressors. When working with children, I place a strong emphasis on family involvement, as children are not independent of their surroundings. In my work as a counselor I have presented at state conferences on the topic of social media and online safety and I have helped families navigate through this new and pervasive technology. I am a strong advocate for my clients on their journey through self-exploration and self-actualization.
My core belief is that all people are worthy of love, respect, and authenticity. In a more holistic approach to therapy, Full Circle hopes to build more of a community with our clients and to remove some of the stigma attached to therapy. Counseling can be extremely intimidating, and it takes tremendous vulnerability, strength, and trust to reach out. I hope to make this process as comfortable and inviting as possible! Please let me know how I can help!
