I believe everyone goes through times of needing help, of feeling discouraged and overwhelmed and even paralyzed. My first job as your counselor is to listen deeply and compassionately, with an ear tuned to what you might have missed about your own situation. That might mean noticing patterns and pitfalls in your distress. It might mean helping you to try out new perspectives and behaviors, or simply being a calm and supportive witness to your distress. It might even mean challenging you on occasion. I have repeatedly seen that my clients know what they need to move forward, but something blocks them from finding or acting upon their own answers. My work with you is to help you find the wisdom and light inside of yourself again--the wisdom and light you might have lost sight of. We will set goals together at the start of treatment and together will work towards those goals.

I use a variety of techniques, drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Narrative Techniques, and Mindfulness. I also use energy techniques for healing trauma, biofeedback for anxiety, and nature-based techniques. Theoretically, I’m rooted in object relations theory, meaning that I believe our attitudes and behaviors often stem from early relationships, and so it often makes sense to explore how current problems originate from seemingly obsolete childhood challenges. Realizing that you carry a belief about yourself that comes from something you were told in third grade and that no longer applies can be extraordinarily liberating.

I’m currently in the final stretch of graduate training in clinical mental health counseling at the University of the Cumberlands. In addition to my work here at Full Circle, I am simultaneously completing an internship with the Focus Counseling Centers of Asheville, where I deliver psychotherapy and neurofeedback services. I have a previous Ph.D. in Professional Coaching and Human Development and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. My career includes 20 years of providing life coaching to private and EAP clients, emphasizing relationship issues, transitions, grief, career clarity, work concerns, creativity issues, and life purpose clarity. I’m also the author of several self-help books.
