The question I’m always trying to ask as a counselor is not, “How can I help my clients cope better?” but rather, “How can I help them not have to cope quite so much in the first place?” Coping gets exhausting after a while, doesn’t it? Maybe you’ve been in counseling before, (maybe for a really long time) and maybe you’ve already learned some good ways of coping. I’m more interested in helping you truly, permanently heal on a deeper level so you don't have to take so many of those deep breaths. I've also learned that we usually can’t there just by talking about it. Talk therapy is often really helpful, but usually not enough.
My approach to counseling relies heavily on experiential, evidence-based models designed for deeper, more permanent healing. I believe that trauma - whether it is a major life threatening event, sexual abuse, or a developmental trauma like parental divorce - is at the heart of the vast majority of mental health challenges and I have consistently been amazed by the transformative power of trauma-focused interventions. In my approach to healing trauma I use a few different experiential, evidence-based approaches including but not limited to Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), and Somatic Experiencing (SE). I am a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) and I also specialize in working with adolescents. Most of my experience to this point has been with middle- and high-school aged adolescents. I also enjoy working with couples and families.
I was first drawn to Full Circle because of their shared passion for fostering a healthy community here in Hendersonville through the use of various outreach programs and holistic approaches to promoting wellness in the individuals they serve. While I am often amazed by the power of counseling and the potential it has to open new doors in people’s lives, I believe counseling is only one tool for creating a full, meaningful, and healthy life. Spirituality, social connectedness, and physical health are also critically important for one’s well-being and I try to be intentional about helping my clients address those areas of their lives as well.
I’m really passionate about the work I do, but when I’m not working, I enjoy hiking, spending time doing just about anything outside, and being with my twin daughters. Music is a really important part of my life and I have been in various rock and folk bands ever since I was young. I love to travel and learn about other cultures. I’m also a fan of all things nerdy like sci-fi, board games, etc.

It requires a lot of vulnerability and courage (yes, those go together) to even start searching for a counselor, let alone make an appointment and actually show up for that first session. I would be honored to help support you in using that courage and resiliency to overcome whatever is making you feel stuck. Feel free to contact me for a free consultation.
