I come to the field of counseling with a strong desire and ability to connect with others and help others move toward
inner growth. Prior to my counseling career, I worked as an English as a Second Language teacher for 20 years,
forming deep, connected relationships with ages 3 to 80. I have been honored that through both my teaching and
counseling relationships, I could be part of people’s growth and increased feelings of empowerment. I believe in the
power of everyone to find their own inner wisdom, heal and grow, realize their potential, and achieve their goals.
I am especially interested in helping women in transitional times of their lives, all young adults and middle-aged
adults as they move into new life stages, and people in search of a fulfilling career. I greatly enjoy working with
LGTBQIA+ clients. I am also passionate about working with couples, working to improve communication and
deepen understanding between partners, as well as helping partners gain insight into how our pasts affect current
relationships. I have a special interest in helping people with relationship issues as well as issues related to break-up
and divorce.
As a teacher of all ages and a mother of a teenager and young adult, I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and
parents. With my background in ESL, I also have a strong understanding of the immigrant experience and the
struggles and challenges that can come along with it. I am fluent in Spanish and welcome the opportunity to work
with Latino clients in our area.
In therapy, we will find out your goals and the strategies that work best for you. Through a combination of
mindfulness, cognitive and body-based, existential, person-centered and narrative approaches, I hope to be
able to help others fully feel and express their emotions, create more positive thought patterns, and to be
able to author a new chapter in their lives. I emphasize the use of spiritual resources when these are
important to clients. Self-compassion is another essential part of the work I love to do. I employ techniques
from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, helping clients learn to diffuse from and to accept difficult
thoughts and emotions while moving towards what they value most in life. I also enjoy taking a very
goal-oriented, life coaching role for those who are seeking such an approach. With my work with couples, I
draw heavily from Imago Therapy and attachment-based approaches.
I believe strongly in the power of therapy and in the capacity of us all to move towards healing and towards
an empowered life, the life we most deeply desire. I’ll be excited and grateful to be on this journey with
you.
