I am cisgender, have been married for 37 years, and am the proud mother of three grown boys (one of whom is a transgender man). My Christian faith is very important to me, but I do not impose my faith or particular beliefs on anyone else. We may use your spiritual background/beliefs in counseling if that would be helpful to you. My husband and I previously lived in Florida, where I attended college, and we only recently moved to Western North Carolina. I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Florida State University in 1983. After graduation, I worked in a few different professional positions before beginning a career in the Space Shuttle program, which lasted 23 years. When the program ended in 2013, I worked in a series of jobs including everything from an Uber driver to a tax preparer. In 2018, I had a eureka moment and realized I was not “too old” to pursue a Master’s degree in counseling, but instead my age could be an asset in the therapist’s chair. I am currently seeking my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, and am providing counseling to meet requirements for internship hours as part of my degree. I have really enjoyed being able to put what I have learned in the classroom into practice! I love learning about the unique qualities of the clients with whom I get to work and interact and assisting them on their journey towards a more purposeful, fulfilling, enjoyable life!
