I am cisgender and have been married for about 40 years. I am the proud mother of three grown children. One is cisgender male; one is a trans male; and one is non-binary.
I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Florida State University in 1983. After working in a few different professional positions, I began 23 year career in the Space Shuttle program. When the program ended in 2013, I worked in a series of jobs including everything from an Uber driver to a tax preparer. In 2018, I had a eureka moment and realized I was not “too old” to pursue a master’s degree in counseling. Instead, my age could be an asset in the counselor’s chair. While completing my master’s degree program, my husband and I relocated from Florida to Western North Carolina’s mountains. Here, I completed my master’s degree and provisional license in 2022.
I work with adults who are experiencing a variety of issues, such as anxiety, depression, and family and relationship problems. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and person-centered therapy to assist individuals live their best life. I especially enjoy working with folks in the LGBTQ community. While my Christian faith is very important to me, I do not impose my faith or any particular beliefs on anyone else. If you feel it would be helpful, we may use your spiritual background/beliefs in sessions.
I have really enjoyed being able to put what I learned in the classroom into practice! I love learning about the unique qualities of the clients with whom I get to interact and assisting them on their journey towards a more purposeful, fulfilling, enjoyable life. I look forward to connecting and joining you on your journey.
